The Arts: Integrating Creativity
Since God is the God of Beauty who has given us each aesthetic sensibilities and creative gifts, no education is complete without training in the fine arts. All students have weekly classes in music, art and, beginning in 4th grade, drama. Every student performs in at least one play or musical a year.
In the past few years, the Upper School has run the dramatic gamut, with performances ranging from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.” We also made many a Gilbert and Sullivan aficionado smile with our rendition of “H.M.S. Pinafore.” Not to be outdone, the Lower School has entertained with strong performances of both “The Little Princess” and “The Odyssey.” Moreover, the school choir, which presents the Christmas Lessons and Carols program and sings at the end-of-the-year convocation, is made up of all students in Grades 1-8.
We see these activities as an integral part of an Imago student’s education.

The history of the “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” started in the 19th century in the Church of England. Though its origins go further back, it is commonly associated with King’s College, Cambridge, which held its first “Nine Lessons and Carols” service on Christmas Eve 1918. The BBC has been broadcasting this service since 1928, and it has become a well known, much loved and celebrated tradition all around the world.
We draw on this rich and beautiful tradition every year as we celebrate the birth of Christ with Lessons & Carols. This service has always been a highlight of the Christmas season, and has a very special place in the life of our school. Please join us as we retell the greatest story ever told in Scripture and in song: the fall of humanity, the promise of the coming of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
This year The College Church of Seventh-day Adventists will kindly host our Lessons & Carols service on December 18th at 6:30 PM.
The Imago School is a classical school for grades Pre-Kindergarten through 10th and growing, deeply rooted in the Christian Tradition of classical education. The Imago School is located in Maynard, Massachusetts, and was founded in 1980.
